The Times reviews our Ryedale Festival performance

The Times reviewed the ‘triple concert’ at Castle Howard, part of the Ryedale Festival.  Here’s what they had to say about our concert:

“I started in the Chapel where, matching the recusant spirit of the place, the always admirable mezzo Clare Wilkinson and the viol consort Fretwork opened with Byrd. What followed, however, was startling. Between the expected Purcell & Gibbons were deft arrangements of Hugo Wolf songs and even Debussy –La fille aux cheveux de lin sounding eerily austere with the dreamy piano part transcribed for viols. There was even contemporary music: Tan Dun’s A Sinking Love, with the voice swooping atmospherically over the strings’ falling fourths, and Michael Nyman’s charming minimalist miniature If.”
